Magazine Covers

Project: Create two distinct magazine covers

I chose to represent two shows that I was invested in at the time. The Rolling Stones cover features Lili Reinhart, one of the lead actresses on CW’s Riverdale while the Entertainment Weekly cover features Millie Bobby Brown of Stranger Things fame.

*I wasn’t able to find a wellmade vector for the EW logo, so I renderd one of my own, which the Digital Arts and Design department at LIU Post now has as a resource for future students. To see more of my vector tracing click here.

Depatement Pages

Project: Create two unique department pages of varying topics

The first of the two pages worked on was for Game Informer, a video game magazine. The dessert page was made for a magazine called Sweet Collections.

The original files were lost due to a careless error, so I recreated them based entirely off printings of the originals. This set back taught me to be more careful with where I save and click.

Ad Campaign

Project: Create an ad campaign (Direct Mailers, Magazine Advertisements, Booklets and Brochures) for a brand using as much of their style guide as is available.

This project proved difficult to start as most companies don’t typically share their brand guidelines with the general public. At that point it really came down to deep diving through company sites and working with what I could find.

I chose to do a campaign for Converse, tying all the assets into a mock 2017 collection announcement. I rendered  the Converse logo (both it’s text and the chevron and star) from scratch in Adobe Illustrator.

Marketing Campaigns

Project: Create an ad campaign for a brand using social media posts, magazine spreads and other modes of advertisement

For this project I chose to design campaigns for Crayola crayons and the GoPro camera. The Crayola campaign uses Twitter posts (mocked of course) and magazine spreads. The GoPro campaign uses Twitter posts (again mocked) and various examples of exterior advertising.

Four Page Spread

Project: Design a Four Page Spread on any topic of your choice.

My topic of choice was the Baroque period, an art movement starting in 17th century Rome, known for attention to detail and awe inspiring colors. It also just so happens to be one of my favorite art periods, enough so to take classes on the subject.

This spread features several works including paintings, sculptures, instruments and architecture. You can see a list of the pieces used if you click on the magazine.

Editorial Spread

Project: Create an editorial spread with a topic of your choosing

I decided to make a spread for one of my favorite series of all time, Naoko Takeuchi’s Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. The spread had to include a timeline along with several other items normally found on an editorial spread.

This is a project I would love to return to as it was one I made very early on.

Jewelcase and CD

Project: Design a Jewelcase and all its components

This is my concept for The Dark Hour, a Persona 3 sound collection. It was meant to feature a selection of vocal works from the varying installments and side works of Atlus’ hit game Persona 3. Featured above is the jewelcase as well as a sample of the song booklet and the cd itself.

This is also a project I would love to work more on as my skills have improved since its creation and there have been new installments in the series.

To see a render of the song book, please click on the booklet’s front page

Book Cover

Project: Design a book cover for a preexisting using typographic skills

Tasked with creating a book cover for a book of my choice, I decided to create a modernized cover for one of the oldest works of written Italian literature

Package and Product Logo

Project: Design a package for a product alongside its contents. Create a logo for the product as well

As a fan of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, I decided to use that as my theme for the project. The logo was inspired by a previous project that used the same theme but for larger products.

Custom Brochure

Project: Design a brochure for a preexisting company or location

My passion for art history tends to draw me to museums, so this project draws inspiration from that. I made a custom designed brochure for the Solomon R. Guggenheim (often referred to as The Guggenheim).

I wanted to let my brochure stand out against other designs so I decided to use the museum’s peculiar shape as a dieline for my project. This proved tricky to cut by hand and took several tries but it finally came out just right.
